He went on to explain that the program was being carried out in collaboration with the Organisation of World Leaders (OWL), which is based in the United States. King stated that “our target for the year is one thousand beneficiaries.” Today, we have 12 people who have benefited from this program; each of them received 100,000 naira, and three of them also received sowing machines.

King provided the following explanation as to what motivated him to get started on the project: “Many years ago, I had to take my young daughter to the hospital, and I was required to pay N6,000.” It was a matter of life and death for my daughter, but I was unable to pay the bill because of financial constraints. After I had prevailed over the challenge, I reflected on the following question: If my wife and I were able to go through it, I wondered what would happen to a woman who did not have support. As a result, I came to the conclusion that it is incumbent upon me to provide financial assistance to as many widows as is practically feasible. That was the first step of the journey.

Since we began working on the project, we have shelled out hundreds of millions of dollars. In the business that I run, there is a portion of each dollar that goes toward the foundation that is set aside.

“Every month, individuals send in a list of widows who are in need of financial assistance from our organization, and this is the 20th batch that we are addressing at this time.” Up until this point, the financial support has come exclusively from the Felix King Foundation. On the other hand, for the recovery program, we are working with the Organisation of World Leaders in the United States to expand our outreach to more people.

He continued by saying, “Our goal for the year was to reach one thousand people, but I am hoping that with this partnership, we will reach more.” Instead of looking at fish, we focus on how to give a net. Therefore, the people who will benefit from this endeavor need to be those who are actively engaged in some endeavor, no matter how menial. We encourage them to develop their business further. We also place an emphasis on widows who are responsible for their families.”

Dr. Dee Hawkins, who was representing the OWL, stated that “This partnership will last forever” on her end of the conversation. I visit Nigeria at least twice a year, and now that I have this opportunity, I may visit even more frequently. Because Dr. King has such a strong commitment to helping widows, we have decided to collaborate with him. To help the people, we need to be on the same page as one another.

One of the recipients, Mrs. Dosumu Olayinka, who runs a dry cleaning business, shared her story as a beneficiary, saying, “When I lost my husband, I thought the world had ended.” My husband passed away in 2007, leaving me to shoulder the entirety of the responsibility for our children. I am extremely grateful to the Felix King Foundation for making this kind offering.
