Your Opportunity:

Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) North Sector, in partnership with the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, in Edmonton, AB is seeking a qualified full time Associate Director of the Histocompatibility Laboratory. The Histocompatibility Laboratory in Edmonton is an ASHI accredited laboratory and serves a large solid organ transplantation program in Western Canada. This position has responsibilities for laboratory operations with a focus on the Histocompatibility Lab. Accountabilities for this role include; liaison with clinical users of laboratory services in regards to medical and scientific operational issues and decisions related to the relevant laboratory section; participation in test interpretation and reporting; providing knowledge transfer of emerging and innovative methodologies and procedures to staff and colleagues; providing input to leadership regarding quality improvement and strategic planning for the HLA/lab section; and facilitation of communication with and provision of expertise to external stakeholders, customers, and peer organizations, operational supervision of technical and support staff, overseeing the laboratory quality assurance program, ASHI accreditation requirements, on call activity, teaching and supervision of trainees, consultation with clinical teams and, liaising with various multidisciplinary committees that develop and monitor laboratory policies, processes and procedures.

Description:

Areas of sub-specialty expertise include: histocompatibility testing for solid organ transplant (in particular training expertise in thoracic transplantation), immune risk assessment, and supervision of clinical laboratories, theory and practice of laboratory methodologies, quality management, statistical analysis, method evaluation and epidemiology.

Required Qualifications:The successful candidate must have a PhD in Immunology and have completed training in Histocompatibility in an ASHI accredited laboratory and has successfully passed the ACHI diplomat exam. Candidates eligible for certification will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated relevant clinical and academic experience, including expertise in thoracic transplantation.
