Preferred Qualifications:
Five years’ experience overseeing a toxicology laboratory and certification in clinical toxicology (eg. American Board of Clinical Chemistry) is highly preferred.
Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) and the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine (DPLM) at the University of Calgary (UofC) Cumming School of Medicine are seeking a full time (1.0 FTE) board-certified/-eligible Clinical Biochemist to work in toxicology at the Diagnostic & Scientific Centre. Candidates must possess a strong track record of collegiality with co-workers and exemplify interest in teaching and clinical research. Previous experience with urine drug screening, therapeutic drug monitoring and mass spectrometry is required. The successful candidate will join our current group of over one hundred laboratory physicians and clinical laboratory doctoral scientists in APL South Sector. APL is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Alberta Health Services and delivers all publicly-funded laboratory services in Southern Alberta. APL – South Sector has an annual chemistry test volume of >40,000,000, and includes the clinical chemistry laboratories at all hospitals and health care centers throughout central and southern Alberta, as well as the comprehensive laboratory services provided in the academic hub laboratory located in the city of Calgary. APL – South Sector is affiliated with the UofC and the successful candidate will receive a Clinical Faculty appointment at the UofC based on academic credentials.

Each Clinical Biochemist takes direction from, and reports to the Section Chief – South Sector, Clinical Biochemistry, who in turn reports to the Sector Medical Director – South and the DPLM Clinical Department Head. Clinical Biochemists must maintain the highest possible standards of practice including prompt delivery of services to match established performance indicators and quality assurance standards, and must actively participate in teaching. Innovation and building on service excellence are very important for ongoing success of clinical biochemistry in APL-South Sector.

Required Qualifications:
The successful candidate must possess an earned doctorate (PhD) in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology or related disciplines, and a current certification (or eligibility) by the Canadian Academy of Clinical Biochemistry or equivalent (e.g. American Board of Clinical Chemistry).
